Did you like reading The Shack?
We have run into a problem, which we decided to convert to a challenge… we have found that the vast majority of people who’s told us that they like The Shack, actually never defend it by reference to the Bible (personally, without a single exception). As you can imagine, because Truth To Tell Media is founded on a passion for the Word of the God we love, this has deeply troubled us…
On the upside, it has served to make one other thing that we’ve noticed, shine through for us: that those with a deep, pervading insight into the whole of the Bible do not really struggle to see the cluster-bomb lurking inside The Shack. We’ve found that those (non-liberal theology) Christians who spend much time studying God’s Word, are appalled at the caricature of God and the different levels and types of heresy in The Shack. (They maintain that nobody who understands the God who has revealed himself in deeds and revelations through the pages of Scripture, could ever picture him as The Shack does (even less those who respect and adore him), and that the book is so littered with a variety of errors (from minor, to basic, to full-frontal heresy) that it cannot be recommended to any Christian who desires to keep their doctrine free of impurity.)
So if you feel The Shack is a good book, we ask you to take up our challenge to demonstrate from the Bible that The Shack is a Christian book.
In other words, simply show that…
>- The Shack doesn’t significantly contradict Scripture
>- the images, representations and theology of The Shack agree with the way the Bible represents God, and his Gospel
>- The Shack is therefore, overall, a Christian book. That’s it, that’s all – straight-up!
This is plain and simple, so if you love The Shack, we ask you, we beg you, we plead with you, show us, convince us, demonstrate to us that we’re wrong… and that The Shack is actually, really a Christian book. (Unless you state otherwise, your anonymity will be fully respected.)
>>> If you successfully demonstrate that to us, we will send you our FREE CD/MP3-set, The Love of God – Why Do We Struggle to Understand It?, postage and everything included. (For more on this series, click here.)
Finally, we just need to lay down some guidelines for your demonstration that The Shack qualifies as a Christian book…
There is only one way to have a relationship with God – and that is to learn the most important things about who he is, how he is, what he does, what he thinks and what he feels. (Obviously, it makes no sense to have a relationship with somebody you don’t know!) And there is only one place where you can learn the most important things about God – the Bible.
Therefore we will only accept answers that are true to Scripture, and that demonstrate with reference to the Bible (both by the grand themes running through it and by the specific passages (in context) that make up its rich tapestry (many people wrongly think the Bible is just a collection of little verses!)) that The Shack is Biblical. [Of course it’s obvious that you can’t comment about whether The Shack is Biblical or not if you don’t actually know the Bible yourself. It sounds obvious, but an amazing number of people do this. We wouldn’t like you to go on things you’ve heard about the Bible here and there over the years, but on what you know about it – and if you know its themes and (where relevant) it’s passages means you know the book!]
Many Christians regularly revert to verse-throwing when they feel their specific views are threatened. But we will not accept any ‘verse-bombs’, since these do not respect Scripture for the full, integrated revelation that it is. Tossing verses at other people like hand grenades only show a cheap, propagandistic disrespect for the Bible that deserve no comment from anybody. (Verse-throwing is an excuse for those who don’t know the Bible, to know it even less, and for those who don’t study it, to never try.)
But we will definitely accept, and fully respect, honest answers that show us how the entire Bible, looked at lengthwise (its big themes running through), and crosswise (some specific Bible passages in their context) support The Shack as a Biblical/Christian book.
Should you like The Shack, or feel it is OK, but cannot demonstrate this from God’s Word, we suggest that you seriously go back to the drawing board and ask, ‘Why not?’ ‘How solid is my Christianity?’
To help you find the answers you need, we invite you to test our range of deep, and wide, Bible teaching material. See why people cannot stop talking about it (ask for our testimonials from people around the world!), and why even retired pastors say they’ve never heard anything like this.
>>> Just do this, a little experiment: We challenge you to listen to our verse-by-verse series on the book of Ecclesiastes and tell us it hasn’t rivetted you. If you don’t love it, you can send us hate-mail!

We love the God who wrote the Bible – we want you to discover him in the only place one can: in the Bible. The more you learn to know him through the Bible, the more what you experience of him in real life, will start to make sense.
